Cllr JF Burford, joint chair of the Kew Village Market committee presented cheques to two local charities: the Friends of Abbeyfield and Vineyard Community Trust at the Market on Sunday 5 August.
Audrey Duck of the Friends of Abbeyfield received a cheque for £300 to provide entertainment for the residents of the Abbeyfield home in Kew. She said that the money would be used to take a dozen residents and their helpers to the ballet at Richmond Theatre in January: “The ballet is something the residents really look forward to every year. The money will help buy tickets and book a coach to take the old people there in style.”
Café supervisor Roy Anderson from the Vineyard Community Trust received £500 to help pay for part time staff. He said it will help to support staff working at the Community Café on Richmond Hill. He said that they would like to find somebody from amongst the people we help to give them a chance to get back into work. “The grant could easily transform somebody’s life.”
All profits from Kew Village Market go to help local charities. Details about applying for grants can be found on the Market’s website.
